Pinch Hit

Pinch Hi에서는hit은 친다는 뜻이죠. 이 idiom은 야구 경기 용어에서 유래된 것입니다. 야구 경기 도중에 어느 팀이 위기에 처한 가운데 공격을 할 차례에 반드시 안타를 처내야 할 경우, 원래 타순에 있는 선수의 타격이 불안하면 감독은 다른 타자를 대신 내보내게 됩니다. 그럴 때 대신 타자로 나서는 것을 Pinch Hit이라고 하죠. “ Mr. Warren was out for two months recovering from his operation. His assistant Katie Lee was asked to Pinch Hit for him. She’s very young, of course, but she did such a great job that we think she’ll take over his office when he retires next year.”
