Shoot oneself in the foot

ShootOneself in the Foot의 뜻은 글자 그대로 새기면 제 발에 총을 쏘다 라는 말이 되는데요. 이 말은 제발등을 제가 찍는다는 뜻으로 Shoot Oneself in the Foot이라고 하면 자신의 행동이나 말이 자신에게 해롭거나 불리하게 되는 경우를 가리킬때 쓰는 idiom입니다. 이 문장은 죠지 W. 부쉬 현미국 대통령의 부친 죠지 부쉬 대통령이 1988년 선거때 세금을 절대로 인상하지 않겠다고 공약하고 당선된후 세금을 인상하지 않을 수 없게 되어 곤경에 빠졌던 것에 관한 얘기입니다.
